You know what you will find in a hotel room, but in a daily rental apartment you cannot be sure. In the hotel trade a star rating enforces a minimum standard; daily rentals have no such classification, and although Law No. 7464 requires a permit, it says nothing about what is inside the flat. There is no common standard. That is why the answer to what is included in a daily rental apartment varies from host to host.
What almost every apartment has
Furniture, a bed, a fridge, a television and an internet connection count as basics, and at most hosts bills such as electricity and gas are included in the nightly price. The kitchen has a hob, pots and pans and a basic set of tableware. There is hot water in the bathroom. You usually do not need to ask about these. Still, when you are looking at daily rentals, confirm them if the listing does not mention them. If a flat does not even meet this basic list, the question of why it is so cheap answers itself.
In our apartments the nightly price includes furniture, appliances, internet, and electricity, water and gas. The 1-bedroom apartments have a separate bedroom, a living room with a corner sofa, a kitchen with a washing machine and an enclosed balcony; the studios have a double bed, a corner sofa, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a shower.
What not every apartment has
Then there is the other end: the things that are missing. A washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave and iron top this list. When a kitchen is genuinely useful is a separate topic. A cot, a high chair and an extra bed are not standard either. Not every building has covered parking, balconies and lifts vary from flat to flat, and air conditioning is something to ask about separately in summer; our differently designed Ata-105 studio, for example, has air conditioning. With us, too, extra beds and parking are things to ask about when booking. Ask about every one of these before you book, because once you are at the door there is no fixing it.
Linen and cleaning
Bed linen, towels and pillows are ready when you arrive. The real question is how often they are changed. On short stays they are not changed; for stays longer than a week, the frequency is agreed when you book. It is also worth agreeing at the start on which day and at what time mid-stay cleaning will take place. For a guest working from the flat or caring for a patient, that time matters.
In the kitchen, details count
Having a kitchen does not mean the kitchen is usable. So what should you ask? You can ask separately about a teapot, washing-up liquid and enough plates and cutlery. On long stays an oven and a microwave make a real difference, because nobody plans to stand over the hob every evening for three weeks. For large families a dishwasher removes the chore of washing up twice a day.
Safety and children
Guests staying with small children should ask about the lock on the balcony door and socket covers. The number of steps at the building entrance is decisive for wheelchair or pushchair users. Whether there is a lift can single-handedly change the decision for elderly guests. A third-floor flat without a lift can look perfect on paper and cause trouble on the first evening. Listing pages rarely mention these; they are all part of the booking steps.
Ask about the washing machine, oven, air conditioning and lift in one message. What the listing photo does not tell you comes out in those answers.
